Leadership Conference 2011

"The weekend of Nationals in Charlotte, NC was definitely a worthwhile experience. Heidi Schmuker, Blair Williams, Sue Oole, and myself were able to share our leadership skills with the various other chapters of Alpha Lambda Delta in attendance, as well as take in new ideas for implementation into the present and future of our chapter. Aside from all of this, we were able to see and experience the history and culture of Charlotte, NC by visiting the Nascar Hall of Fame, Discovery Place, the parks throughout the city, and more. We were also able to get to know the other members of Alpha Lambda Delta from all over the country through various social events. I took a lot out of the program and had a really great time!" - Nick Colasanti

"The weekend of October 14th through October 16th, Nick Colasanti, Blaire Williams, Sue Oole, and I (Heidi Schmuker) traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina, for the National ALD Workshop Conference. We listened to an inspirational speech by keynote speaker Dr. Patrick Hickey, donated items to a youth shelter in North Carolina known as "The Relatives," went to workshops that brought us many new ideas for our own chapter, and talked with other ALD members from all over the nation. During our free time, we visited the Nascar Hall of Fame, EpiCentre, and Discovery Place. We had a great time and plan on implementing the ideas we gathered into our own chapter both now and in the future." - Heidi Schmuker

Leadership Conference 2010

Orlando, Florida, was the site of this year’s ALD National Workshop attended by our chapter President, Allison Haake, Vice President, Rachel Stegmaier, and Administrative Advisor, Sue Oole.  Our hotel was a short three minutes from Downtown Disney, so you can imagine where we spent our free time! The featured speaker for our initial event on Friday evening was a representative from theDisney Institute whose presentation was titled,”Putting the Disney Magic in Leadership.”
Workshop sessions focused on themes of digital communication, running a successful chapter, tools for winning scholarships, and improving chapter visibility. Each year ALD chooses a philanthropy project and this year donations went to the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary, the largest wild bird hospital in the United States.  Their staff were instrumental in helping rescue birds from the gulf oil spill and are still treating many of those birds today.    The WMU ALD chapter contributed $100 to the project.
